London on lockdown

The Leica M

In these troubling times, when the coronavirus Covid-19 is running rampant through the world, I thought it’d be more important than ever to document these moments and how they look like over here, in London.

On Saturday, the 21st of March 2020, I took my Lecia M and my Sony A7r3 and cycled through the center of London. Please do be aware that I took all the necessary precautions: I cycled on my own bike to these places, stayed at a considerable distance from everyone, wore gloves and washed all my clothes and myself straight after coming back home!

Cycling past some of the busiest places in London, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, felt absolutely surreal, almost all of them being close to empty, especially in comparison to what it usually is. There were very few to no people on the streets, all the stores and restaurants were closed and most of the people walking around were wearing face masks. Please do watch the video and photos below to get a better understanding of the situation. Hopefully it’ll create the desired effect of helping you understand how serious this situation really is.

As I’m writing this article, London is on full lockdown and cycling and documenting the streets wouldn’t be possible anymore. Looking back tho only because of that experience of me being there, walking and cycling along those empty streets, I realized how serious this really is and how important it is for all of us to support one another and fight this thing. Stay safe out there and follow all the necessary guidelines!
